Who are you?

Murray Thomson from Power Yoga Plus

What does your business do?

I'm Scotland's first and only DDP Yoga Instructor.

This is a high energy, low impact fitness system inspired by traditional yoga that is suitable for all fitness levels.

I offer private sessions (for 1-4 people) and classes as well as sessions in corporate settings.

Where are you based?

I'm based in Fitness Frontier on Washington Street, in Glasgow City centre.

This location was perfect for me as it has great transport links (near to Charing Cross, Anderston and Central Stations) and it's very central, which is ideal for busy businessmen and women based in the city centre.

I also offer mobile services, where I'll regularly travel to client's homes or workplaces and sports clubs.

How did you get started?

I delivered my first DDPY classes in the summer of 2015 to a group of my close friends.

By February 2016, I was hiring school halls to teach public classes and the business has continued to flourish since.

What is your background?

I have always had an interest in fitness, health and wellbeing - I have an HND in Sports Coaching, a degree in Sports Studies and personal training and nutritional therapy diplomas.

I started practicing DDPY to overcome a serious hip injury in 2014 and became a certified instructor in December 2015.

What is your top tip?

When it comes to launching and growing a business, I think it's really important to surround yourself with experienced and positive people.

The company you keep can easily pull you down or lift you up - make sure you're in a crowd that you can learn from and that continually challenges and elevates you.

Has anyone helped you get started and how?

I received a lot of help from Business Gateway and the Prince's Trust when I first launched the business.

What was your biggest mistake/or what would you do differently?

I've only recently started blogging, which has been great to increase the visibility of my business.

If I had the opportunity to go back in time, I would build my marketing around blogging and video content.

Who was/is your mentor/or inspiration?

The creator of DDPY, former professional wrestler Diamond Dallas Page, has been instrumental in my development.

He really encouraged me to become certified when I first reached out to him in 2014 and continues to motivate me to be better each day.

Where do you plan your business to be in five years-time?

My goal is to be working closely with more professional sports clubs and governing bodies.

I'm extremely passionate about positively impacting the health of the public, so also looking to develop a working relationship with health care providers.
