EASYJET has revealed plans to create 50 jobs at Glasgow Airport by adding a fifth aircraft to its base at the hub.

The airline said the addition of a fifth Airbus 320 to the base, which Luton-based easyJet announced alongside a new route between Glasgow and Birmingham, will create openings for flight, cabin and ground crew.

The extra capacity brought by the aircraft will provide 340,000 more seats for passengers travelling to and from Glasgow. It joins the two 156-seat Airbus A319 and two 186-seat A320 aircraft currently operating from the base.

Meantime, easyJet said the new Glasgow to Birmingham will operate 13 times a week throughout the year, commencing on March 29, 2020.

Our sister title The Herald reports EasyJet has run flights from Glasgow since November 1995, and is now the airport’s biggest airline, operating up to 294 flights a week across 19 routes.

Ali Gayward, UK country manager at easyJet, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be celebrating our expansion at Glasgow Airport. The addition of another aircraft will help us to deliver long term, sustainable growth at the base providing customers with a greater range of destinations, all with low fares and great service.

“We are also very excited about launching our new route from Glasgow to Birmingham. This will provide even more great value and convenient domestic connectivity for our customers.

“EasyJet has selected Glasgow as the focus of its growth in Scotland and we are excited about the future at Glasgow.”

Francois Bourienne, chief commercial officer at AGS Airports Group, owner of Glasgow Airport, said: "Both easyJet and Glasgow Airport have enjoyed a long and productive relationship since the airline’s inaugural flight landed here almost a quarter of a century ago.

“EasyJet’s plans to expand operations is fantastic news for both the airport and over one million passengers who travel with the airline from Glasgow each year.”

He added: “The introduction of easyJet’s new Birmingham route is also welcome news as services to England’s second biggest city continue to be very popular with both our business and leisure customers.”
