Ryanair staff have announced a fresh wave of strike action which could affect Glasgow holidaymakers.

Passengers flying from Glasgow Airport and Glasgow Prestwick Airport to Spain are at risk of being affected.

Unions representing cabin crew in Spain have announced plans to hold ten days of strikes next month unless the airline changes its plans to close several bases throughout the country.

It comes just days after staff unions across Europe - Britain, Ireland, and Portugal - announced plans to strike at the end of August and beginning of September.

Pilots will strike in a row over pay and conditions, and could again affect holidaymakers in Glasgow.

Ryanair has plans to close bases at Gran Canaria, Tenerife South and Girona, and the SITCPLA and USO workers' unions say they hope this can be prevented through their strike action.

They planned to formally lodge a notice of strikes on Sept. 1, 2, 6, 8, 13, 15, 20, 22, 27 and 28.

The unions have given Ryanair just a few days to make concessions.

Jairo Gonzalo, secretary of the USO-Ryanair Organization said: "We doubt very much about Ryanair's willingness to reach an agreement, and even to present himself with a negotiating spirit.

"More than a year of meetings in official Spanish organizations with an attitude of mockery towards them do not make us have the slightest hope of understanding.

"The strike is called by a forceful threat, expressed not only at the table but personally at the bases of Gran Canaria and Tenerife."
