A NEW festival will arrive in Renfrewshire later this year with the aim of bringing independent films to the community.

The HB Film Festival is set to roll into the Wynd Centre, Paisley, on Saturday, October 19, and Sunday, October 20, with a packed programme of short and feature films lined up.

The idea is the brainchild of former Paisley Grammar School pupil Gary Hewitt, who is keen to give people in the area a better opportunity to see films from around the world.

Gary said: “I started my film-making career here, studying media at Paisley Grammar, and then at Cardonald College, so I am absolutely delighted to be holding this event in Paisley, particularly when there aren’t many cinema options available in the town.

“The HB Film Festival is a wonderful opportunity to see some fantastic films from across the world. We’ve got something to suit all tastes, so come along and join us for what is sure to be a fantastic event for movie lovers and
film-makers alike.”

The two-day event will showcase films by Scottish, British and international film-makers across a host of genres, such as comedy, animation and horror.

Alongside the film screenings, the festival is also set to feature live comedy from local act Chris Thorburn and music from Paisley singer Lisa Kowalski.

An awards ceremony, with 17 trophies up for grabs for film-makers, will close the festival, with Rab C Nesbitt writer Ian Pattison and Outlander star Scott Kyle making up the judging panel.

A weekend pass costs £15 and tickets for individual screenings start at £2.50.
