FIREFIGHTERS tackled a bus blaze outside one of the city's biggest shopping centres.

Two fire engines were called to Cowglen Road before noon today to a report of a bus on fire.

The fire was put out and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that no one was injured.

It is not known at this stage what caused the fire.

The Evening Times understands that the number 25 Colchri Coaches service which travels to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital was the bus on fire.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “We were alerted at 11.49am on Monday, August 19 to reports of a bus on fire in the Silverburn area of Glasgow.

“Operations Control mobilised two fire engines to the city’s Cowglen Road, where crews were met by a well alight vehicle.

“Firefighters extinguished the fire before leaving the scene.

“There were no casualties.”

McGills warned passengers travelling through the area that the number three service was unable to stop. A statement said: "Due to a vehicle being on fire within the bus station, our service is unable to serve the bus stop until emergency services have cleared the area. Please use the nearest available stop on Peat Road."

The road has since reopened.
