GLASGOW'S top cop is stepping down from his post to retire from policing.

Chief Superintendent Brian McInulty has officially handed over the divisional commander role to Chief Superintendent Hazel Hendren. She will now be in charge of policing across all the city's divisions. 

He said: "Chief Superintendent Hazel Hendren has served across Glasgow at every rank and I couldn’t think of a better person to hand over to. I’m proud and privileged to have served my home city with such great people. Thanks to all who have supported me."

Chief Supt Hendren shared an image of the pair on social media outside the city chambers this week confirming that the official handover ceremony had taken place. 

She said: "The official handover of the command of Greater Glasgow Division outside the City Chambers in Glasgow.

"Good luck Chief Supt McInulty. Have a very long happy healthy retirement and lots of fun."
