A CHILDREN’S residential home could be built in Govanhill after an application from Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership.

The partnership has applied for planning permission to erect a two-storey building on a site at Victoria Road and Butterbiggins Road.

MAST Architects would complete the development on behalf of the partnership and Glasgow City Council.

The plan “comprises of 8 bedrooms with communal living spaces and staff areas”.

Glasgow Times:

A planning report states: “Glasgow City Council, Health and Social Care Partnership (GCHSCP) has a statutory requirement to provide the highest standards of care to vulnerable young people, who for a variety of reasons, cannot reside within their own families and who, as a result, require to be accommodated within local authority residential care.”

The home will “infill a gap site” on a new housing development on Butterbiggins road, which is currently under construction.

The report states it has been established that “children’s residential care houses are best procured within wider housing development projects situated in high amenity areas”.

Areas should also be “mixed in terms of tenures, incomes and age groups, thus providing the best opportunities to successfully integrate the service into the wider community”, the report states.
