A protest against Boris Johnson is to be staged in Glasgow as part of a nationwide series of demonstrations this weekend.

The announcement comes after the Prime Minister confirmed Parliament has been suspended earlier today.

The move means MPs will have a limited time to pass any laws that could prevent a no-deal Brexit on October 31.

Hundreds are expected to attend rallies staged across the country this Saturday in protest.

Hosted by group Another Europe is Possible, Glasgow's rally will be held in the city's George Square at 2pm on Saturday, finishing at 5pm.

On the event's Facebook page, almost 500 people have confirmed they will be going, with a further 1,300 expressing their interest.

Organisers said: "Boris Johnson is trying to shut down our democracy so that he can deliver on his Brexit agenda.

"We can’t just rely on the courts or parliamentary process to save the day. We all have a duty to stand up and be counted.
