JEREMY Corbyn will lead a Labour rally in Springburn this weekend following the decision by Boris Johnson to suspend parliament.

MP Paul Sweeney confirmed on his social media accounts that the event will take place on Saturday at 10 am in Springburn Alive and Kicking Project.

The leader of Scottish Labour MSP Richard Leonard and the Shadow Minister for Climate Justice and Green Jobs MP Danielle Rowley will also be in attendance.

Mr Sweeney said: "The future of our democracy is now at stake. Join Jeremy Corbyn in Springburn on Saturday morning to rally against this attempted coup by Boris Johnson, and to resist a 'no-deal' Brexit. It is time to take these dangerous Tories out of government."

A post on Facebook for the event added: "We need a general election to kick Boris Johnson out of Downing Street and elect a Labour Government for the many, not the few."

The latest rally comes after thousands of people protested last night against plans to suspend Parliament in rallies in London, Glasgow and other cities within hours of Boris Johnson announcing the plan.

At Westminster, crowds blocked traffic and some staged a sit-down protest in Parliament Square chanting “stop the coup” while others headed for Downing Street.

There were also impromptu demonstrations after the Queen approved an order that will see Parliament suspended for more than a month.

The move means MPs will have a limited time to pass any laws that could prevent a no-deal Brexit on October 31.

We reported last night that a protest against Boris Johnson will take place on Saturday at 2 pm in George Square.
