Almost 17,000 people in Glasgow have so far signed the petition against Boris Johnson suspending parliament to prevent MPs blocking a no deal Brexit.

The online parliament petition has attracted almost 1.4m signatures across the UK and is rising every hour.

At noon today (Thursday )Glasgow North had the most signatures in the city with 3818 people putting their name to protest the decision by the Prime Minister, which is 5% of the total electorate.

It is the third highest in Scotland with only Edinburgh South and Edinburgh North gathering more signatures.

In Glasgow South 2435 had signed the petition, Glasgow central had 3427.

In North West it was 2703, North east 1326, South West 1202 and Glasgow East 968.

MPs encouraged people to sign the petition and send a message to the Prime Minister.

Chris Stephens SNP South West MP shared the petition link on twitter.

He said "You can join the 1194 Glasgow South West Constituents who have signed the petition opposing the outrageous decision to prorogue Parliament by signing here."

In the Prime Ministers constituency of Uxbridge and South Ruislip 1445 had signed up.
