Airports are exciting places - the buzz of the departure lounge, the smell of duty free perfume and the exotic places listed on the boards are enough to get anyone in the mood for a week spent next to the pool.

Glasgow Airport is set to get more exciting with the opening of the new VIP Lomond Lounge.

In addition of the Upper Deck Lounge, the VIP Lomond Lounge is an extra level of pre-flight luxury which will open on Monday.

Glasgow Times:

Themed to “bring the outside, in” the lounge is fitted with a full oak bar complete with specialised whiskey and gins. The barrel vaulted ceiling is exposed, the first of its type in Glasgow airport, and a full A La Carte menu is available as well as buffet options, free WiFi and luxury seating.

The menu caters to all, with vegetarian and vegan-options along with meat options.

Glasgow Times:

The Evening Times was lucky enough to be invited along, sampling some of the menu options: from chicken and veggie tikka masala with jasmine rice and pakora, to fish and chips, vegan burgers, summer salad and Scottish smoked salmon, there was an option there for everyone.

The lounge is set above the departures lounge with a complete view to the apron, where those enjoying the lounge can watch anything from BA Jumbo Jets to Loganair Embraers depart.

The lounge was established to accommodate for the popularity for the Upper Deck lounge, which during busy periods can reach capacity.

Glasgow Times: It is open from 5AM until 9pm and is £40 per head; more expensive than the Upper Deck Lounge, but airport officials believe it to have a little bit more added luxury.

Property Manager Laura Reid has been working flat out to ensure that everything is perfect for the Monday opening.

“I think the VIP Lounge adds luxury to the complete airport experience" she says.

Glasgow Times:

“It brings a little bit of the glamour of bars and restaurants in the city centre to the airport, so people can experience that before they leave.”

"We have a complete cocktail menu, and are about to start integrating in Afternoon Tea menus. Eventually we hope to have a full outdoor seating area and viewing deck."

"It has the really nice feel of being able to enjoy the best of home, and Scotland, before you leave it to wherever you're going."

Glasgow Times:

And indeed, be it a long flight or a short trip, the VIP Lomond Lounge brings the beauty of Scotland's outdoors right into the heart of the airport.

Be it an Eden Mill gin cocktail or a sliver of Scottish salmon, the VIP Lomond Lounge is one of the final phases of regeneration in Glasgow Airport that give it that added touch of sparkle.

The VIP Lomond Lounge has, in a past life, had many different faces: having previously been a Frankie and Bennies to an pub, this is certainly the coolest and most glamorous state its seen.
