AN empty unit in the city's West End could be turned into a takeaway cafe if city planners approve a proposal.
A planning application for a change of use on the unit in 58 Gibson Street has been submitted to the local authority.
The property was originally a bakery before it was occupied by a small printing company. It is now vacant.
In a planning statement, Bennett Development and Consulting say they have marketed the unit for a year but there has been no interest in it being used for retail.
The statement said: "The proposed development will see the premises changed from a vacant retail unit to a class 3 café/coffee bar with a small ancillary takeaway service.
"It is anticipated that the menu will focus on breakfast, light lunches and teas as well as snacks, pastries, cakes, biscuits, desserts, coffee, and teas as well as soft drinks."
The statement added: "The proposed development will see this vacant property recycled into a small bijou café offering a wide range of fare during the hours of 7 am to 6 pm daily.
"Located within the heart of the student area of the West End and adjacent to the university, there is great demand for such outlets within the area, and this proposal will contribute to and complement other facilities within the area."
The last date for comments on the proposal is September 30 and a decision is expected by October 28.
