STRIKES have been called at whisky giant Diageo plants in Glasgow.
Unite the union announced a series of strike action dates at Diageo’s Shieldhall plant as well as at Leven and Cameron Bridge.
Talks over pay broke down between the trade unions involved in the dispute with Diageo on Friday at the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service (Acas) T
Strikes will take place at Shieldhall on September 19 to 20 from 6 pm to 5.59 pm. and on September 26 and 27
Union members rejected a 2.8% pay offer
The company’s brands include Smirnoff, Bailey’s, Johnnie Walker, Guinness, Tanqueray and Gordon’s gin. The company has also submitted plans for a flagship whisky experience on Edinburgh’s Princes Street.
Unite regional industrial officer Bob MacGregor said: “Diageo has made minimal effort to resolve this dispute through negotiations, which is the central reason why talks broke down at Acas last week. Unite entered those talks with our sole objective being to achieve a fair pay award for the workforce and to avert strike action.”
