The mum of Alesha MacPhail is planning a candlelit vigil and balloon release in memory of the tragic youngster.

Alesha's death on the Isle of Bute in July last year at the age of just six-years-old shook the nation.

Now, mum Georgina Lochrane wants to celebrate what would have been her eigth birthday with celebration for her "very own star in the sky".

Georgina, friends, family and anyone who wishes to pay tribute are invited to Coatdyke Park in Airdrie on October 20.

A public event on Facebook reads: "We are hosting a balloon release and candle vigil in memory of our very own star in the sky alesha macphail
on sunday the 20th of october at coatdyke park across the road from the war memorial (centenary park same place as last year).

"On the 22nd of October it would have been Alesha's 8th birthday so in memory of this Alesha's mum Georgina asks if you could bring a pink balloon to be released for alesha and a candle if you wish.

"Hope to see you all there".

Anyone who wishes to attend is urged to be there for 7.30pm with the balloon release set for 8pm.

Georgina has also set up a new charity - Alesha's Beaming Smile - to "arrange seasonal activities throughout the year".

Posting on Facebook, the tragic youngste'rs mum wrote: "Alesha's Beaming Smile is a non profit voluntary based unregistered organisation.

"This group was set up in memory of my daughter Alesha Macpahail who was murdered on 2nd July 2018 at 6 years old while visiting her dad and grandparents on the Isle of bute.

"She was only 3 days into her summer holidays."

Georgina reveals how she has "fought, struggled but most importantly been determined to give back" to her community for their support throughout the difficult time. 

She added: "As most will be aware a memorial funday took place on 29th June 2019 to mark the one year anniversary of alesha and I vowed then to make that an every year event.

"Here at Alesha's Beaming Smile we offer to arrange seasonal activities through out the year.

"Every year we will hold one huge day in memory of Alesha to mark her anniversary everything we do will be completely free to the public to attend and any donations will be greatly appreciated and will go towards materials and other improvements towards Alesha's Beaming Smile.

"In the future we hope to arrange day trips for families that have been nominated by the public".
