POPULAR South Side restaurant Gnom has been forced to close today after a break in.

The Pollokshaws Road favourite was targeted in the early hours of this morning with staff saying the business is looking "a bit worse for wear".

Gnom, which opened in March last year, should reopen again tomorrow.

On Facebook, staff wrote: "Sorry to say we're closed today.

"Someone broke in to the cafe in the early hours of this morning and we're going to spend the time today making sure we're set up perfectly for tomorrow.

"Apologies for any inconvenience."

The break in follows a spate of thefts in the local area, including at nearby restaurant The Bungo.

We told last month how the Strathbungo restaurant was broken into by three young thugs.

It was one of a number of incidents across Battlefield, Shawlands, Strathbungo and Govanhill all believed to be linked to the same group.

Thousands of pounds of damage has been caused across the area with businesses broken into, cars damaged, bus stops and phone booths smashed and windows broken at Langside College.
