A GRAN is fighting for her life after a sudden heart attack during a family holiday in Benidorm.

Agnes Martin, who turns 74 today, is in a coma in a hospital in the Spanish holiday resort after falling ill last Thursday.

A fundraising campaign has been set up to bring 'Wee Aggie' home.

Tricia Gowans, who is the Easterhouse woman's niece, started the campaign after learning the family has to raise £24,000 to bring her home - and they don't know if her insurance company will payout.

It is understood that the pensioner forgot to highlight her high blood pressure when completing her health insurance form.

Tricia told The Scottish Sun: "We're trying to get her home while she's still alive.

"We can either fly her back, which will cost £24,000, or get in contact with an ambulance to drive her back.

"That would cost £15,000 but it would take three days - and she might not last."

She added: "There was nothing wrong with her but on Thursday she took a massive heart attack.

"The local emergency services took 25 minutes to arrive - and didn't have any oxygen with them.

"They worked on her for 40 minutes at the scene and then took her to hospital.

"She went into a coma in the hospital and we've just had a scan showing that she's brain dead."

More than £5,000 has been raised for the Glasgow woman so far.

Tricia added: "Aggie's well-loved in Easterhouse. She's the life and soul of the community.

"There's a great community spirit in Easterhouse, so we hope some people can help.

"She goes to the bingo so we're going there to see if they can raise anything for us."
