THE wife of Rangers legend Fernando Ricksen has shared a touching picture of him with his daughter - adding that the pair are 'best friends'.

Veronika Ricksen's heartwarming picture of the former footballer and six-year-old Isabella racked up likes and comments on Instagram. The post was also liked by former Light Blues teammate Nacho Novo. 

In a caption, Veronika said: "They are best friends, there is something special in common between them, they always have same jokes and lots of fun together, and they both never listen to me but I love them so much. Ricksen never give up."

Fans responded to the father and daughter moment with one saying: "What a beautiful photo and take care, Fernando. Keep fighting too."

Another added: "What a beautiful photo."

Fernando, 42, has been fighting a long battle with Motor Neuron Disease (MND).

He was diagnosed with MND in October 2013. At the time he was given only 18 months to live but in a true testament to his strength and courage, he has battled on to fight the muscle-wasting condition.

He is currently based at St Andrews Hospice in Airdrie as he battles the condition.
