Scots actor John Hannah has hit back at claims he is the spitting image of a bag-snatching church burglar - exclaiming "chuff me!".

An e-fit was released by police last week after a thief stole a woman's handbag from a church in Bristol.

Some instantly compared the man in the image to 'Four Weddings and a Funeral' star Hannah - but he seemed to be less than impressed.

Posting a link to the story on Twitter, the 57-year-old from East Kilbride said: "IM SORRY? Do I look like that?? Chuff me!"

The A-lister's tweet was met by a hilarious reaction by some of his 29,500 followers.

One person said: "Nah. You're way prettier than that" while another added: "Bloody hell! That's horrifying!".

But some seemed to see the similarity, with one commenting: "Eer a little".

The wanted man was also compared to Julian Clary, Nigel Farage, Michael Caine and The Thick Of It character Malcolm Tucker.

Police have confirmed they are still looking for the e-fit man.

The burglar crept into the Tyndale Baptist Church during a slimming class on the evening of September 3 and took a handbag.

He is described as white, between 6ft 2ins and 6ft 3ins and somewhere between 45 and 60 years old.

He is of slight build, with mousey brown hair which was curly at the sides.
