The mum of murdered Alesha MacPhail has warned that Aaron Campell will kill again, after a judge ruled to reduce his sentence.

The teenager, who raped and murdered six-year-old Alesha on the Isle of Bute last summer, has had his minimum sentence cut by three years.

Campbell was jailed for 27 years before parole earlier this year, but claimed his sentence was 'excessive' and appealed the decision last month.

Judges have now decided that the minimum term the 17-year-old will serve before being considered for parole will be 24 years.

Alesha's mum, Georgina Lochrane, believes that Campbell would have continued to kill if he was not caught following her daughter's death - dubbing him a "danger to children".

She told the Daily Record: "I’m worried for the future generations of children who will be running about when he gets out.

"He’s a danger to children and he’s always going to be.

“He’s the worst of the worst and they’ve caught him on his first kill.

"We could be sitting here with ten children dead if they hadn’t caught him – and I don’t think he would have stopped until he was caught.”

Georgina had had just this month set up a new charity - Alesha's Beaming Smile - to commemorate her daughter.

Yesterday she took time to thank her supporters on the group's Facebook page after the news.

She said: "I would like to thank everyone for all your support today, yesterday and every single day.

"My girls and my partner are my fight my strength and my determination, but most importantly so are you's.

"Everyone welcome to Alesha's Beaming Smile and may her smile shine forever".

Georgina had previously branded Campbell a 'rat' after his appeal bid was granted in May.

Three of the country's top judges say a punishment part of 24 years would be 'appropriate to reflect the appellant's youth'.

Campbell's solicitor Brian McConnachie used the case of Luke Mitchell, who murdered his girlfriend Jodi Jones when he was just 15, to back up their appeal.

He said the sentence was 'excessive and amounts to a miscarriage of justice' due to his age.

The reduction means that Campbell will now be 40 before he can be considered for release - a day which his solicitor said: "may never come".
