Two people are injured in hospital after a shooting in East Kilbride.

Emergency services were called to the Gordon Drive area of Calderwood just after 11pm last night.

Officers, including forensic teams, remain at the scene this morning.

A second police cordon is blocking off a large area of road at Calderwood Road and Laurenstone Terrace, just minutes from Gordon Drive. 

Shattered glass is scattered across the road inside the cordon.

One neighbour, who asked to be known only as Jane, said: "I got home from work last night and the police were already here with the road taped off. 

"It's a real shock. 

"This is quite a quiet wee bit and we never have any trouble. 

"Nothing like this has happened before."

Police Scotland have since confirmed the incident was a shooting.

A force spokesperson added: "Around 11.05pm on Tuesday 10 September 2019, police received a report of an incident in the Gordon Drive area of Calderwood, East Kilbride.

"Two people have been taken to hospital.

"Officers remain at the scene and enquiries, which are at an early stage, are ongoing."
