Police Scotland report no arrests or incidents after a protest held in George Square by hundreds of Loyalists on Saturday morning.

The Loyalists, backed by members of the Orange Order, were protesting Glasgow City Council's banning of future marches.

Earlier in the week an emergency public procession committee ruled that six parades of Loyalist and Irish Republican groups would not be allowed to proceed.

The decision sparked discontent from the Orange Lodge of Scotland who joined the Scottish Protestants Against Discrimination (SPAD) for an overall peaceful protest.

Chief Superintendent Hazel Hendren said: “An appropriate policing operation was put in place in Glasgow today in order to manage any events and I am pleased to see that the demonstration in George Square passed without incident.

“There have been no arrests or further incidents reported to us at this time and there will continue to be a proportionate policing presence in the city.”

Around 100 officers monitored events as more and more protesters joined the demonstration during its duration.
