A POLICE probe has been launched after a teenager was filmed performing a Nazi salute outside a synagogue near Glasgow.

The Daily Mail reports that the boy, who is a pupil in S4 or S5 at a top Scottish school, has a Hitler-style moustache drawn above his upper lip in the video which has been circulated online. He is also seen grinning into the camera.

In the next scene of the clip, the boy stands outside the synagogue in Giffnock, with his arm raised in a Hitler-style salute.

Police Scotland confirmed that they are investigating the hate crime which was posted on Twitter by a member of the public who said they had reported the anti-semitic offence.

It is understood that the video was sent around pupils in the high school on Friday via Snapchat and Instagram.

Danielle Brett, of Glasgow Jewish Representative Council, told the newspaper: "This is obviously a distressing video for local residents and the wider Jewish community. We hope the school deal with the incident appropriately."

Police Scotland confirmed to The Evening Times that they were investigating the incident.

A force spokesman said: "Police Scotland is aware of a video circulating online on various social media channels which shows a teenage boy conducting actions of an antisemitic nature outside a synagogue.

"Enquiries are ongoing to trace the persons responsible for making and distributing the video."
