DRINKERS queued around the corner for the eagerly awaited reopening of city pub Lauder’s – more than a year after it closed due to the fire that claimed Victoria’s nightclub.

Regulars and newcomers were waiting outside for the half-shut shutters to be lifted at the expected 5pm time.

Like all good things that come to those who wait, punters had to wait a little bit longer.

Joseph Currie, 74 from Cowcaddens, has used Lauder’s as his local for 15 years.

“Oh, I am very excited for Lauder’s to re-open” he said.

“I was having a bit of a peek in the window and it looks very different – much more open and accessible, good for the people in the wheelchairs and

for those who can’t always get into the tight spaces.

“I think it will bring a bit of life back to Sauchiehall street. My friends and I who usually drink in here have sorely missed it. It seems to be doing what a lot of new pubs do – making it much more open and bright.”

General Manager Jaqui Montgomery, said that the new Lauder’s was important for its celebration of the old Lauder’s.
