Celtic superfan Jay Beatty has paid tribute to Rangers legend Fernando Ricksen after his tragic death.

The footballing world ground to a halt today at the news of the Dutch footballer's passing aged only 43.

Fans from clubs across the globe came together to pay tribute to the Ibrox legend.

And closer to home, Celtic superfan Jay Beatty - who had met the star on two occasions - has paid his own tribute.

Posting on behalf of the family, the 'Wee Jay Celtic Bhoy' Facebook page shared an image of the pair - along with the caption "RIP Fernando Ricksen". 

More than 1800 people have so far reacted to the post with many commenting their own tributes to the footballer.

Ricksen was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in 2013, later being cared for at the St Andrew's Hospice in Airdrie.

In 2016, Jay donated a picture of himself with the legend to raise funds for MND Scotland.

The youngster, who is a Celtic FC Foundation Ambassador, paid for the commission of the drawing out of his own pocket money.
