A CITY restaurant wants to develop its premises in the Merchant City - by installing a mezzanine floor.

Steak, Cattle & Roll in Bell Street have asked the city council for planning permission to install the mezzanine floor in the internal courtyard of the restaurant.

The proposal states: "The existing property is a bar/restaurant which forms part of the Merchant Square development.

"It is accessed from Bell Street at the front of the building and Marchant Square at the rear.

"It currently consists of a ground floor with toilets in the basement and a small upper mezzanine seated area.

"The proposed works are for the construction of an additional upper mezzanine area within the square and accessed from the existing mezzanine.

"It also includes the formation of a second external stairway from the new mezzanine down to the ground floor."
