Ruth Davidson was given a stern talking to on last night's episode of The Chase by host Bradley Walsh - after calling him 'rude'.

The former leader of the Scottish Conservative Party appeared on the celebrity special of the hit quiz show on Saturday evening.

She starred alongside BBC Breakfast host Dan Walker, former The Only Way is Essex star Ferne McCann, and Level 42 lead singer Mark King to take on Paul Sinha and win money for charity.

He asked the question: "How is forty written in Roman numerals?"

Ms Davidson was given three options: M, L or XL, to which she chose the latter.

But when Walsh confirmed her answer, he looked at Ms Davidson and said: "XL - extra large. You happy with that?"

And while the audience laughed, Ms Davidson turned and said: "That's a bit rude, isn't it?"

As Bradley attempted to quell his laughter, he took his contestant by the arm and off to the side to 'reprimand' her.

He gave her a 'stern' talking to, and said: "I do the jokes on this show."

Earlier, he had joked about being 'in or out' with Ruth - referring to her referendum vote.

But the former politician tried hard to avoid the question, and replied: "Well, hopefully, we'll get plenty of money in the bank."
