A school for pupils with “profound and complex learning disabilities” in Glasgow had its minibus stolen in a “disgusting” break-in.

Officers were called to Linburn Academy in Penilee shortly before 1am this morning amid reports that a group of youths were seen in the area and a minibus had crashed into parked cars nearby.

It was later found abandoned with extensive damage.

The Linburn Road school, which provides additional support needs, was closed to pupils today because of the September weekend bank holiday.

Glasgow City Council have since hit out at the “disgusting” act, urging anyone with information to contact the police.

A spokeswoman for the council said: “It’s disgusting that the vandals have targeted an additional support for learning school and in particular the school transport.

“The school is contacting parents to let them know the school will open as normal on Tuesday but there will be delays to transport.

“If anyone has any information about the break in then they should contact the police.”

A spokesperson for Police Scotland added: “Officers are investigating following a break-in and theft of a minibus from a school in the Penilee area that happened overnight on Sunday into Monday.

“At around 12.50am on Monday, officers were called to the school following a report that a group of youths were seen in the area and that a minibus had crashed into parked cars nearby.

“Inquiries have established that the minibus had been stolen from within the school grounds and subsequently abandoned. There are no reports of injuries.”

Anyone with information should contact police via 101 quoting reference number 0124 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
