CITY police have issued a travel warning to Hoops supporters travelling to the Europa League match at Parkhead tonight.

Officers reminded fans attending that Barrowfield Street between Fielden Street and Clyde Gateway is closed to foot and vehicle traffic.

It was closed after police launched a murder investigation following the tragic death of Liam Hendry.

The popular 18-year-old died after he was deliberately hit by a white van in Barrowfield Street just yards from his home in the city’s East End on Sunday morning.

A second man, 30, is also fighting for his life in hospital after he was attacked and seriously injured following the incident which is being treated by police as murder.

Police added that road closures also remain in place on London Road.

Their warning comes after we reported that calls were made for a minute’s applause to be held at Celtic’s game against CFR Cluj tonight.

Babz McMahon took to Twitter calling for fans to get involved in the tribute for Liam who supported Celtic.

She said: “Liam was tragically killed in a traffic incident over the weekend.

“Family and friends hope fans can give a minutes applause on Thursday night on the 18th minute.

“Fly high with the Angels Liam.”

The tweet has received support from thousands of Hoops supporters who have backed the call.
