A FREE cultural arts festival will take place in the East End today.
The East End Free Festival (EEFF) is a day festival from noon to midnight, organised by social empowerment charity, People Without Labels at The Space on London Road, which is ‘Scotland’s first ‘Pay what you like’ venue.
The next Cinnamons, Godleys and Bridges are just some of the acts involved in the event.
Headliners on Saturday include American-born, freestyle rapper, singer and multi-instrumentalist, Dimetrip and Glasgow sensations, Fuzzy Lop.
The fun-filled day will also include an aerobics rave, yoga, a children’s cinema, The Dream Machine relaxation session, a microbiology workshop and something sure to give you a tickle, a laughter yoga workshop.
Creative Director, Matt Lygate, said “We are of a belief that far too many people are locked out of cultural institutions for reasons of class, gender, age, disability or background.
“We want to shake things up in Glasgow and create a more level playing field for the city’s artists, musicians, poets and actors and everyone in-between.”
People Without Labels, Trustee, Linda Cormack, added: “We hope to ensure activities are accessible not just physically, but financially and democratically.
“Also, we will provide a voice, a language and more importantly, the space and tools for a community to be able to enact and empower itself.”
The event is backed by Glasgow City Council, Musicians against Homelessness, Alto Mustard Communications, Morrisons Foundation and is supporting the PRS Keychange Foundation pledge which is encouraging festivals and music organisations to achieve a 50:50 gender balance by 2022.
