A young woman has been attacked and had her mobile phone and rucksack stolen in the Trongate area of Glasgow.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the incident, which took place at around 12.15am on Tuesday on Moir Street.

The 21-year-old suffered minor injuries after being grabbed from behind, with those responsible making off with her mobile phone and rucksack.

Officers want to speak with five men in connection with the incident, all described as being white and wearing dark hoodies at the time of the assault.

Detective Constable Emma Laurie of Greater Glasgow CID said: “We are utilising a number of resources as part of our efforts to find the individuals responsible for this.

“Enquires are also ongoing into two similar robberies that took place in the same general area on 14 September, and there has been an increase in high visibility patrols as a result.

“At the moment we are keeping an open mind as to whether these incidents are linked, however I would encourage anyone with information which may be relevant to get in touch."
