Nicola Sturgeon has backed Glasgow Lord Provost, Eva Bolander, amid the expenses row stating she is an "excellent Lord Provost".

Ms Sturgeon was asked at First Minister's Questions in Holyrood about the revelations she had claimed £8000 on clothes, hair, nails and make-up over her two years in office.

Adam Tomkins, the Glasgow Conservative MSP, said: "Eva Bolander has ripped off the people of Glasgow. Isn't it time she went?"

"She has rightly reflected on the claims and decided she should not have made the claims.

"We all have to be careful and considered about expenses claims."

However, she warned against expecting Lord Provosts to foot the bill for any additional expenses they might have to carry out the job.

She added: "We don't want a situation that its only people who can afford to equip themselves in the role."
