The official number of registered sex offenders living in Glasgow have been revealed.

Police Scotland statistics published on September 30 reveal our city has the highest number of sex offenders in comparision to other police divisions. 

Across the whole of the country, there are 4299 registered sex offenders in the community, meanwhile 1460 are currently in custody or hospital.

Greater Glasgow division currently has 681 sex offenders in the community - with 235 in custody or hospital.

The force also revealed that, as of September 30, Police Scotland has 14 wanted registered sex offenders and no missing Sex Offenders.  

They also believe that 14 offenders are outwith the UK. 

Their website states: "Police Scotland treat all missing and wanted Registered Sex Offenders with the utmost seriousness and will carry out all possible enquiries to trace their whereabouts and to re-establish the management required to protect the public.

"On all occasions a Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) of a rank no less than Inspector will be appointed to lead these investigations."
