A woman is in hospital with a serious head injury after being mowed down by a car in the city centre.

The 31-year-old victim was struck by the car on West Nile Street at around 9.10pm on Saturday.

Emergency services attended and took the woman to Glasgow Royal Infirmary for treatment.

Police charged a 52-year-old man in relation to a road traffic offence, and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

Cops closed the road in both directions for over an hour while they dealt with the incident.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "We received a report of a road traffic collision involving a car and a pedestrian around 9.10pm on West Nile Street, Glasgow, on Saturday 26 October 2019.

"A 52-year-old man has been charged in relation to a road traffic offence and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal."
