One of the 39 migrants found dead inside a lorry in Essex had reportedly planned to meet a friend from Glasgow.

The revelation comes as lorry driver Maurice Robinson, 25, from Northern Ireland is due to appear in court tomorrow.

Earlier today, two men and a woman arrested in connection with the deaths were released on bail.

News of the discovery sent shockwaves across the world, with families in Vietnam facing an anxious wait to find out if their loved ones are among those dead.

A friend of Tran Thi Tho – a 21-year-old woman thought to be one of the 39 victims – told BBC Radio 4 he was due to meet with her when she arrived in the UK.

Their reporter, having translated their conversation, said: “In Glasgow, we spoke to a friend who was hoping to see her once she arrived in the UK.”

The man told the BBC he did not want to be identified, however said he was from the same part of Vietnam as Tran Thi Tho.

He said he had spoken to some of the families who had told him they were “waiting for a miracle”.

Yesterday we told how a vigil is planned for Glasgow in tribute to those who lost their lives.

Campaigners from Stand Up To Racism Scotland are planning to meet on the Buchanan Street steps to recognise the tragic events.
