A woman has died and a man is fighting for life in hospital after a two-car crash in Cambuslang.

Officers were called to the roundabout at the A749 Cathkin Bypass shortly after 8pm last night following a collision between a blue Ford Focus car and a blue Volkswagen Golf car.

A 62-year-old female passenger of the Ford Focus and her 68-year-old drive were taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

The woman was pronounced dead on arrival, with the driver currently in a criticial condition.

The 38-year-old driver of the Volkswagen Golf car was taken to Hairmyres Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries before being released.

Sergeant Simon Reilly at the Road Policing Unit in Motherwell is appealing for witnesses to the crash.

He would also like to speak to anyone who has dashcam footage of the incident.
