A Paisley shopkeeper who refused to sell alcohol to a teen using a fake ID has been left scarred for life after having part of his ear bitten off.

The 36-year-old man was rushed to hospital after the "vicious and unprovoked" attack, which took place at the entrance to the Corky's store on Broomlands Street in Paisley.

It's thought the thugs had initially asked a member of the public to buy them drink in the shop at around 8.30pm on Saturday, but this was unsuccessful.

One boy, aged either 15 or 16-years-old, then entered and tried to purchase alcohol with a fake ID.

After being refused, another member of the young gang tried to get served - again being refused by the shopkeeper.

At this point, an altercation ensued in the doorway of the shop as the group begins attacking the man; kicking, punching and spitting on his body.

Police say a teenage boy and girl then carried out the brutal attack on his ear.

He was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital where medics carried out emergency surgery.

Detective Inspector Bob Bowie, from Paisley CID, said: “This was a vicious and unprovoked attack which has left the victim scarred for life.

“We are very keen to trace the male who was asked to go into the shop on behalf of the group just prior to the assault taking place.

“The shop and street would have been busy at the time and we would like to speak to anyone in the area who has not already spoken with officers.”
