Nameberry, which offers advice for new parents, listed the Renfrewshire town at number four on its ranking of on-trend children’s names for the new year.

It placed ahead of names including Amina, Tegan, Nova and Aura on the list - which details the most fashionable titles to give newborns over the next 12 months.

Adah, Reese and Mika topped the list for girls, according to the website.

It remains to be seen if Paisley will be popular with parents next year as the official UK list will not be published until 2021.

However, there was little love for some of the town’s most famous sons on the boy’s list, with youngsters named after John Byrne, Paolo Nutini and Gerry Rafferty failing to make the list.

Glasgow Times:

Austin topped the boy’s rankings, followed by Alva, Acacius, Tate and Diego.

A Nameberry spokesperson said: "Our top baby names are a radical departure from the official national list, which suffers from a considerable time lag. We won't know which names were really used the most often for babies in 2020 until May of 2021.”

"The names here offer baby namers a heads up on trends and specific names destined to get more popular in 2020 and beyond."
