An ‘inspirational’ Glasgow man has died after being knocked down by a marked police car in London.

Andrew Brown, a former Earth Sciences student at the University of Glasgow, lost his life after the collision, which left a 16-year-old boy also seriously injured.

An investigation has now been launched into the circumstances of the crash, which took place in Hounslow in west London just after midnight on Friday, November 1.

It’s believed the pair were walking on a pedestrian crossing when they were hit by the marked car.

He was rushed to intensive care at the city’s St George’s Hospital but the 23-year-old could not be saved.

He passed away on Tuesday.

Tributes have been pouring in after news emerged of Andrew’s death.

He was a former Vice-President of the Queen Margaret Union, as well as spending his most recent years working as a coordinator at AmeriCamp – where he was praised for his work helping kids with special needs in Pennsylvania.

A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police confirmed: “Two pedestrians have been involved in collision with a marked police car on Friday, November 1.

“At around 12.03am, the vehicle was travelling along Whitton Road in Hounslow when the incident occurred.

“We are aware that this is a traumatic time for the families and we continue to offer them our full support.

“The Independent Office for Police Conduct are investigating and the Met remains fully cooperative with their enquiries.

“Three police officers were involved in the collision did not suffer any injuries.”

A spokesperson for the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) confirmed an investigation had been launched into the incident.

They added: “The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has begun an investigation into the circumstances of a collision involving a Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) vehicle and two pedestrians.

"A 16-year-old boy and a 23-year-old man were hit by the marked car and sustained serious injuries and were taken to hospital. The man has subsequently died.

"Initial information suggests the man and boy were using a pedestrian crossing when they were hit by the police car.

"Following referral from the MPS, we sent investigators to the scene to begin gathering evidence.”

AmeriCamp have launched a scholarship in honour of Andrew so “his legacy can live on”.

Lee McAteer, founder at the firm, added: “Andrew was the life and soul of the party. His huge smile and caring personality shone like a ray of light.

"Today, the world is darker without him.

"He might not have been here for long, but his legacy will last forever.

“With the blessing of Andrew’s family, we have decided to create the Andrew Brown Special Needs Scholarship which will allow someone each year to continue the great work Andrew did at Camp JayCee."

The Andrew Brown Special Needs Scholarship will be awarded in January 2020.

Queen Margaret Union also paid tribute.

A Faceook post read: "Those who knew Andrew will be aware that to know him was to love him.

"He was a vivacious and inspiring individual who had so much time for the people in his life, and gave so much to others through his work at QMU and beyond.

"His tragic loss will be felt deeply by all of us here.

"We would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, and we will keep you aware of any plans that they or the QMU have to remember Andrew in due course.

"You will be sorely missed Andrew".
