It may only be November, but Glasgow is gearing up for the holidays in style.

It's the time of year when the nights are getting darker, and our streets seem to be in need of some Christmas spirit.

We have taken a look at the Christmas light switch on events in and around Glasgow city centre, so you won't miss out on the festive fun this month.

November 10

Forge Shopping Centre, East End

It's a weekend of fun at The Forge, as the east end prepares for the annual switch on. Santa will arrive on Saturday 9, with Sunday reserved for the lights themselves and the legendary fireworks finale at 5.45pm.

Activities commence at 12pm each day until 5.30pm and conclude with a fantastic firework finale at 5.45pm on Sunday 10th November.

November 16

Motherwell

Head over to the area near to the Costa car park between 4pm and 6pm for the festive event of the year. Love Island's Anton Danyluk will headline the annual switch on, alongside performances from tribute Little Fix and Paulo Martini.

Clyde Shopping Centre, Clydebank

You won't want to miss this - Clydebank will welcome the Christmas season on November 16 between 12.30pm and 4.45pm. Central Superheros, Simply Rod, James Hughes and Glasgow’s latest boy band Just The Brave will be making guest appearances throughout the day.

Don’t forget Santa’s arrival and the opening of his grotto at 12pm!

Paisley town centre

Paisley will be celebrating all things festive with Santa, his reindeer and a sleigh-load of free, family fun throughout Paisley town centre on Saturday 16 November from noon till 6pm. The big switch-on will be at 6pm, so don't miss out!

Lanark

Visitors will be able to browse around a Christmas Market from 9am to 5pm, and will be entertained from 2pm by Sing Lanrik Choir, Lanark Panto Group, Lanark Amateur Musical Society, St andrew’s Hospice’s Lorna McCafferty and the Lanark Silver Club draw.

Gina McKie and Provost McAllan will then be joined on stage by the Lanimer Queen, Lord Cornet and Santa for the big switch-on at 5pm.

November 17

George Square, city centre

This year, the bright lights in George Square will be switched on at 6pm on November 17. The event is ticketed via an online ballot, and so if you were not one of the lucky ones who won a ticket in the last few weeks, you may have to sit this one out.

Princes Square, city centre

If you're not one for standing out in the cold, city centre shopping hub Princes Square will be turning on their dazzling lights on November 17 at 4pm. Santa will also be arriving to help with the festivities and will be stopping off in restaurants along the way.

East Kilbride

A Christmas market will run from 12pm to 5pm and street theatre performers, a stiltwalker, a balloon artist/juggler will mingle with the crowds and a Walkabout Elf will hand out sweets.

Community Acts will entertain onstage from 2pm along with Happenin’ Dance and Margaret McGarry from St Andrew’s Hospice before Gina McKie and the Deputy Provost welcome Santa for the switching on of the lights at 5pm.

November 23 

Helensburgh town centre

Head to Colquhoun Square on November 23 at 5pm to see Helensburgh light up for Christmas. The event promises a fun filled afternoon with fun fair rides and Santa visits. They're also giving Christmas lovers the chance to switch on the lights themselves - one family or group of friends will turn on the lights on stage with Santa. Tickets are on sale on the day only from 2pm.

Hamilton

Hamilton will see the return of its Traditional Christmas Market, open from 10am to 5pm. An assortment of entertainment will be taking place around the town centre, with the Jumbotron relay stage and a brass band at the Top Cross, face-painters in the Regent Shopping Centre, street theatre and a balloon artist in the precinct and Minions in the compound.

The stage shows will begin at 2pm and will feature the Valerie Brown School of Dance, Happenin’ Dance and Andrew Flynn from St Andrew’s Hospice, before 5ive wow the crowds from 4.50pm to lead in to the grand switch-on at 5.30pm.

November 28

Airdrie town centre

Airdrie will be hosting family, fun events to switch on the festive lights, supported by Albert Bartlett and O2, with a performance from Monklands Light Opera. 3.30pm to 5.30pm.

November 29

Bellshill town centre

From 3.30pm to 5.30pm, Bellshill will be a sea of festive cheer with music from Glasgow singer-songwriter Ashleigh Burns helping to bring in the holiday season.

December 1

Glasgow's west end

The west end of Glasgow will begin its festivities in December, with the lights being switched on at 5.30pm on Vinicombe Street.

Head over for festive fun on Vinicombe Street, Ashton Lane, Cresswell Lane and Ruthven Lane. Christmas markets are open from noon with a selection of local traders selling gifts, crafts, food and drink.
