Almost 600 people gathered to pay tribute to Blantyre man Kyle Monteith yesterday. 

Crowds congregated in Kirkton Park at 6pm for a mass balloon release followed by an impressive fireworks display. 

Police found his body near Station Road in Blantyre on Thursday morning with the exact cause of death yet to be confirmed. 

As part of the tribute, people observed a minute of silence during the balloon release and the remembrance event ended with long applause by the gathered crowds.

People continued to express condolences on social media. 

One mourner wrote: "Thoughts are with his Mum, girlfriend and close friends. RIP young man, fly high with the angels."

Another said: "Was the most beautiful tribute to such a lovely, caring, kind young man. You are the brightest star in the sky R.I.P Kyle."

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said on Thursday: “At around 7.55am on Thursday, November 7, the body of a man was discovered near Station Road, Blantyre.

“A post-mortem examination will take place in due course to establish the exact cause of death, however, there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances.

“A full report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.”
