Glasgow commuters are being urged to dig deep to help support the city's homeless and vulnerable community - by taking part in a donation drive.

Glasgow Central will be collecting clothes and toiletries at the station's main concourse to be taken to the Glasgow City Mission tomorrow.

The charity works with vulnerable groups in the city, including those facing homelessness or living in poverty.

The list of items that Glasgow City Mission needs includes:

•             Shower gel

•             Spray deodorant

•             Shaving foam

•             Disposable razors

•             Men’s boxer shorts

•             Men’s and women’s socks

Around 100,000 passengers travel through the station every day, with staff confident they will see a huge response from Glasgow's commuters.

The collection will run throughout the day on the concourse near the clock and volunteers will be on-hand to take the donations.

Southern Sound, the radio station for Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, will provide entertainment and children from schools across the city will be singing for passengers before Elsa visits the station for rush hour between 4pm-6pm.

Drew Burns, Network Rail station manager for Central, said: "Our passengers are always quick to support the charities we host in the station and we hope they will donate to the important work of the Glasgow City Mission.

“Even a small donation of toiletries or clothing will be gratefully received and put to good use supporting the more vulnerable members of our community.”
