THE organiser of two of the city's biggest music festivals has donated guitars to a new Glasgow primary school.

Riverbank Primary School in Dalmarnock received 15 guitars from DF Concerts & Events who are behind TRNSMT music festival at the Glasgow Green and the Summer Sessions at Bellahouston Park.

The donation is part of the firm's pledge to support grassroots music. That includes encouraging young people throughout Scotland to take up or continue to keep music as a hobby – or to consider as a potential future career from an early age.

With 180 pupils from primary one to primary seven, the guitars were a welcome addition to the city’s newest school. which also has a musical programme.

Geoff Ellis, CEO of DF Concerts & Events, said: “Having access to musical instruments from a young age will hopefully inspire youngsters to explore the limitless opportunities that music can present, and to dream big. Who knows, we may even be welcoming them to perform at TRNSMT or Summer Sessions in the future.

"The donation of the guitars, (no) strings attached, is our way of helping to encourage musical learning from an early age, and at a grassroots level. It’s to help build up Scotland’s burgeoning music scene and populate our headliners of the future with an excellent mix of new artists and bands, and hopefully, closing the Gender Play Gap.  The next music star just might be from Riverbank, so stay tuned.”
