HUNDREDS of performers took to the streets of Glasgow yesterday for the return of the Style Mile Carnival.
And they were watched by festive shoppers and visitors as they danced along a route from St Enoch Square to George Square.
The carnival, themed “A Festive Fayre”, marks the opening of the Christmas Market which will run from 10am to 10pm until Sunday, December 29.
Glasgow’s Depute Lord Provost, Councillor Philip Braat was joined by four-year-old Olivia Hamilton, a patient at Glasgow’s Children’s Hospital, and her family at the head of the carnival.
Olivia and her family are raising funds for Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity.
Mr Braat said: “The Style Mile Carnival is a firm family favourite that generates great excitement as it winds its way through the heart of Glasgow.”
The Style Mile boasts more than 1500 shops, at the likes of St Enoch Centre, Buchanan Galleries, Princes Square, Argyll Arcade, House of Fraser and John Lewis & Partners.
Shopping bosses say extended opening hours, as well as click and collect options make it easy to get organised in the run up to the big day – and with lots of places to head for a coffee break, rejuvenating drink or well-earned post shopping meal, Christmas shopping in Glasgow is also a treat.
Come evening, festive fans can choose from a range of Pantomimes and Festive shows in theatres and venues city-wide
