CELTIC fans have raised more than £15,000 to support asylum seekers in both Glasgow and Rome in the wake of a fascism row following their clash with Lazio.

The Hoops' Europa League match with the Italian side on October 24 was tarnished with controversy after travelling fans were filmed marching down the city's Buchanan Street making fascist salutes.

Celtic fans responded with a banner inside the ground, depicting Italian dictator Mussolini's body being hung next to the message "follow your leader".

The Parkhead club were issued a £13,000 fine from UEFA as a result of the "illicit chants" and "illicit banners" - their third fine this season.

The Glasgow side won the match 2-1.

In the wake of the row, Celtic's ultras - the Green Brigade - set up a fundraiser to support Baobab Experience and Scottish Action For Refugees - charities in both Scotland and Italy who offer support to asylum seekers.

In just an hour, more than £1000 was raised.

Now, almost a month on the group have repeatedly smashed their fundraising targets - with the amount now raised sitting at nearly £15,800.

The page reads: "Sadly, intolerance towards immigrants is still a familiar tale across Europe.

"All too often this manifests itself in football stadiums and for too long it has gone unchallenged.

"Hailing from the Italian capital, our Laziale guests are no strangers to the modern day refugee crisis with Italy currently holding over 170,000 refugees.

"Far from being tolerant, Lazio fans are instead renowned for their extreme-right views which were witnessed both on the streets and in the stands last Thursday.

"The Celtic response to this was modest but unequivocal: f**k off Lazio."
