Police in the city's North East division have issued a warning to Christmas shoppers following the blatant theft in the shopping centre in the Easterhouse area of Glasgow
The force added that the theft happened on November 19 but provided no further details about the value of the gift.
The victim was in a shop when the opportunist thief struck.
A Police Scotland spokesman said: "A newly purchased Christmas present was stolen whilst the owner was distracted in a shop at the Fort Glasgow on November 19.
"Busy shopping centres and Christmas shoppers attract opportunist thieves. Don't give them a chance."
