COPS have warned that any alcohol found in Kelvingrove Park will be disposed of as they issue a statement about anti-social behaviour.

The local area commander for Glasgow’s West End is reminding people planning to visit the park this spring or summer that anti-social behaviour and other criminal acts will not be tolerated.

Previously, the park has had to be cleared due to incidents, and cops have been deployed with riot shields.

But over the last two years, officers say they have seen a positive change in the behaviours in the park.

Chief Inspector Paul Douglas said: "Families, many members of our communities, tourists and visitors have enjoyed our wonderful city and the beautiful scenery Kelvingrove Park has to offer.

"This year I want to encourage people to make use of the park responsibly and get the message out clear and early that antisocial behaviour will not be tolerated.

"As we head into the lighter evenings, and hopefully better weather, Police Scotland is once again working closely with Glasgow City Council to prevent repeated incidents of antisocial behaviour from occurring in and around Kelvingrove Park.”

Chief Inspector Douglas revealed that previous years have saw youngsters place themselves in a vulnerable state due to alcohol intake.

He added: "Throughout the summer seasons we will have police and council resources in the park for your safety.

"I do not want a repeat of previous years when, unfortunately, some young people placed themselves in a vulnerable state susceptible to harm due to their levels of intoxication.

"Any alcohol found in the park will be seized and disposed of accordingly.

“We will also be working with various partners to ensure that the experience of those visiting the park is a positive one and that Kelvingrove Park is a safe and enjoyable space for everyone, a place for us all to be proud of and enjoy responsibly."
