A former seamstress has celebrated her 100th birthday...and believes eating chocolate biscuits is the secret to her long life.

Anne Lochhead Thomson, who lives at Newton House Care Home, in Newton Mearns, recently celebrated the milestone with family and friends.

She also made a special visit to her former family home in the village of Eaglesham, where she was born on October 10, 1923.

Glasgow Times:

Anne told the Glasgow Times: "It's been wonderful to visit Eaglesham and to see the home I lived in for so long, but it is especially amazing to be surrounded by family and friends."

Apart from spending a short spell living in Canada with her husband, Anne has always loved living in the Scottish countryside and enjoying village life.

And even when the couple did live in Canada, there were known locally as the 'Scottish walking couple'.

Anne celebrated her big day with her nieces Dorothy and Jean, as well as friends, residents and staff at Newton House Care Home, where the chef laid on a delicious celebratory buffet dinner.

Glasgow Times:

When asked for the secret to her long life and her advice for living, Anne said: "Eat more chocolate biscuits."

When Anne was born, King George V was on the throne and just a year later, in 1924, an earthquake destroyed one third of Tokyo.

Kerri MacNeil wellbeing and lifestyle coach at Newton House Care Home, said: "We are delighted to see Anne celebrate with her family and friends and we feel privileged here at Newton House to be able to share her birthday.

"It's a remarkable birthday and it is so lovely to hear all of Anne's stories."
