When is the autism-friendly session at the Irn-Bru Carnival 2023?

The Irn-Bru Carnival will be hosting two autism-friendly sessions on December 31 from 11am to 2pm and on January 9 between the hours of 4pm and 9pm.

A spokesperson for the event said of the sessions: "It’s important that everyone gets a chance to enjoy Glasgow’s greatest festive tradition, so the IRN-BRU Autism Friendly Sessions are back to allow those with autism or sensory processing difficulties a chance to enjoy the rides in an environment with reduced sound and light, and with smaller crowds and queues."

During the sessions, the main hall lights will be on, music turned down or off altogether and the rides will be made slower wherever possible.

When is the adult-only session at the Irn-Bru Carnival and what else is on?

An over-16-only event on Thursday, January 11 will also take place between the hours of 4pm and 9pm. Those attending will be required to show ID upon entry.

Here are some of the other events taking place at the Irn-Bru Carnival this year:

Christmas Jumper Day (December 24) - Those wearing a Christmas jumper to the event will be gifted an extra voucher to be used throughout the fair.

Meet Your Heroes (December 27 and January 7) - Children are being invited to dress up as their favourite superhero, princess or villain. Special guests from family-favourite films are also expected to show up.

Ginger Day (January 12) - According to the organisers: "We all love a ginger and to show our appreciation to our fiery-headed pals, we are celebrating them on 12th January by offering a free voucher to one of the 65+ stalls and rides, simply by turning up and being ginger."

Musical performances -  The organisers state that they "are also supporting local buskers and musical talent throughout, with a number of amazing performances, from the opening day where guests can expect a traditional Scottish bag piper, to DJ’s and some of Scotland’s rising stars from Sauchiehall Street superstar, Maria McAveety, to the sultry sounds of local boy, Matthew Gibb."
