AN exciting finish saw Lochgelly’s St Patrick’s Primary emerge as the 2024 winners of Cowdenbeath Rotary Club’s Primary School Quiz.

The event took place at Lochgelly Centre, on Wednesday, when 15 schools battled it out for the title and the opportunity to represent the area in the Fife final in April.

Throughout the eight rounds of the general knowledge quiz, the lead changed hands several times, with Cowdenbeath, St Ninian’s and St Joseph’s featuring in the leading area, but in the last round St Patrick’s finished strongly, to end with 41 points, two ahead of Crossgates, with St Kenneth’s, Ballingry, third on 38.

The winning St Pat’s team was Drew Robertson, Naomi Bahlaj, Max Jankowski and Harris Simpson, who will move on to the Fife final, to be held on Wednesday April 17, at Auchmuty High School in Glenrothes.

Question master, Neil Westgarth, said: “It was certainly the most exciting finish I can remember in many years, and the St Patrick’s team produced some top-class answers in the closing rounds.

“The standard of the answering of the questions was excellent throughout the competition.”

Quiz organiser, Jim Stark, added: “Getting 15 out of our 16 primary schools in the district to take part was really encouraging, and the behaviour of the pupils was first class, with their display of general knowledge being so very good.”
