Theme park staff, customers, and suppliers raised over £1000 in two weeks for a food bank charity helping people in Lanarkshire.

The Wee Mobile Foodbank, a non-profit organisation, helps people in Lanarkshire that don’t usually need to use mainstream food banks.

The charity is run by Colin Dickson and his ‘long-time’ friend, John Malcolm, who were delighted to accept £1100 and donated food items from M&D’s Theme Park.

Volunteers at The Wee Mobile Foodbank provide one-off emergency support to people in need across Lanarkshire.

The donation comes as more people are relying on food banks which are noticing a drop in donations as the cost-of-living crisis looms.

Colin said: “We’ve seen a decline in the donations we receive and, at the same time, a rise in people needing our help so we’re grateful to everyone who continues to support us.

“We decided not to run our toy appeal this year but concentrate on the essentials, but people have still been really generous in donating selection boxes and advent calendars.”

Staff at the theme park organised a collection and raised £1100 in just two weeks.

Collections will continue at M&D’s until December 24 and stations where donations can be dropped off are located at various points.

Matthew Taylor from M&Ds said: “We’re all well aware of how challenging it is for people this winter and we were only too pleased to help.

“The response from visitors to the theme park has been amazing and we are very grateful.”
